Friars Club Comedy Film Festival 2009

Souled Out Comedy is a glimpse into the lives of African American stand-up comics Rick Younger, Wali Collins, Dean Edwards, Leighann Lord, Marc Theobald and Mike Yard. Struggling to fight a stereotype of the foul-mouthed black comic, these comedians keep it clean onstage and are caught in the middle: not raw enough for black rooms, but still too black for white rooms. This documentary follows these six performers as they band together to create a show of their own, one they hope will dismantle stereotypes and bring a new genre of clean, classy, comedy soul to New York City.
